DOUBLE R CONFIRMS THREE CARS FOR FIA F3 EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP

Double R Racing has announced it will field a three-car entry in the 2013 FIA Formula 3 European Championship with Antonio Giovinazzi and Sean Gelael to be joined by female Colombian racer Tatiana Calderón.

Italian 19-year-old Giovinazzi, the 2012 Formula Pilota China Champion, and 16-year-old Indonesian racer Gelael both signed to race with Double R in British Formula 3 prior to Christmas but will now turn their attentions to competing against the best young guns in Europe.

South American 19-year-old Calderón, the first woman to finish on the podium in the US-based Star Mazda Championship, completes Double R’s three car line-up. The Bogota-born driver arrives at the team off the back of a strong year in the European F3 Open, where she was ninth overall, and a promising run in the recently concluded New Zealand-based Toyota Racing Series.

“We have raced on the Hankook tyres before, so we know what to expect where they’re concerned, and although there are some highly experienced drivers in European Formula 3 this year our three are very promising and could well spring some surprises. Testing so far has gone well; we’ve had some good running at Pembrey, so now we can’t wait for the season to get underway,” says Team Principal Anthony ‘Boyo’ Hieatt.

Monza in Italy will host the opening event of the 2013 FIA Formula 3 European Championship on 23-24 March. British rounds will take place in April and May at Silverstone and Brands Hatch respectively.
