The French driver Isack Hadjar has officially been disqualified from qualifying for the Miami Grand Prix of Formula 1, after his vehicle, a Red Bull Racing, failed to comply with the technical regulations of the competition.

The technicians determined that the panels on the bottom of the car, both the left and right sides, were beyond the standards allowed by article C3.5.5 of the F1 regulations. This violation was discovered during the post-qualifying scrutiny process, so the disqualification was expected after the first reports.

As a consequence, Hadjar will start Sunday’s race from the pitlane, instead of the ninth position obtained during qualifying. This position will now be occupied by Pierre Gasly, while Nico Hulkenberg from Audi will be placed in the fifth row together with Alpine.

A statement from the FIA confirmed that the team’s representatives did not dispute the conclusions of the technical delegate, who indicated that parts of the vehicle’s lower surface protruded 2 mm beyond the permitted dimensions. Regulators remind that competitors have the right to appeal certain decisions, in accordance with the international sporting code.

The day has been disappointing for Hadjar, who also failed to score points during Saturday’s sprint race, where he finished ninth. The head of the Red Bull team, Laurent Mekies, acknowledged his responsibility and guaranteed that they would take measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.

This disqualification means that the team’s hopes for a good result completely depend on driver Max Verstappen, who will compete from the front row alongside polesitter Kimi Antonelli.
