Honda confirms Diogo Moreira for its official team in 2027; David Alonso joins LCR

Honda has announced that Brazilian rider Diogo Moreira will join the brand’s official MotoGP team for the 2027 season. Moreira, the current Moto2 champion, will share the garage with Fabio Quartararo, thereby consolidating his position in the top category of motorcycling.

This news means that David Alonso, who had reached an agreement with HRC to ascend to the premier class, will join the satellite team LCR. He will take the spot that Moreira leaves vacant as he moves to the factory team.

Moreira, in his debut season in MotoGP, has demonstrated great consistency, currently sitting in 15th position in the championship with 74 points, tied with Quartararo. His best results so far include a second place in the sprint race at Motegi and a sixth in the race in Hungary.

For the new project, Moreira will have the support of head mechanic Andres Madrid, who will move from KTM to HRC. Also, Santi Hernandez will supervise Alonso’s adaptation to the category after his time in Moto2, where he has maintained fierce competition but has suffered a decline in his title aspirations.

In the announcement, Moreira expressed his excitement at joining the official team, stating that it is a dream for any rider. In contrast, Alonso has struggled this season in Moto2, and his only victory in Assen has not been enough to keep him at the top of the standings.

Honda’s decision to support Moreira seems justified, given his superior performance compared to Alonso. The competition continues, and expectations remain high for the upcoming season, both for the official team and for LCR.
