The rider Fabio di Giannantonio has achieved pole position at the Brazil MotoGP Grand Prix, representing the VR46 team, despite an incident at the end of the qualifying session.
After a weekend marked by intense downpours, the Goiania circuit remained dry during Saturday’s proceedings, but several riders faced problems during qualifying.
Francesco Bagnaia was the first to fall in Q2, losing control of his Ducati at turn 10, just three minutes after the session began. The championship leader, Pedro Acosta, was next to fall, becoming a victim of the famous turn 4, shortly followed by a fall from Marc Marquez at the same spot.
All three riders returned to the box to use their second bikes, but the initial accident allowed di Giannantonio to secure the provisional pole on the VR46 Ducati, with Marquez in second position. Jorge Martin finished the first round in third position, while his Aprilia teammate, Marco Bezzecchi, achieved the fifth-best time halfway through the session.
In the final laps, di Giannantonio slightly improved his time, marking 1m17.410s, although this did not leave him completely safe from competition. Martin was on track to set a better time, but fell at turn 6 with only three minutes remaining, resulting in a display of yellow flags. Di Giannantonio also fell at turn 4 shortly after, creating a chaotic situation.
However, none of the rivals managed to surpass the time of the 27-year-old rider, thus securing his second pole in his MotoGP career.
Bezzecchi climbed to second position before the end of the session, but could not replicate his Q1 lap, which would have given him pole by just 0.002s. Marquez ended in third position, while Fabio Quartararo executed an impressive lap in the final moments, achieving fourth place.
Martin held fifth despite his fall, followed by Ai Ogura in the Trackhouse Aprilia. The Gresini duo, Fermín Aldeguer and Alex Marquez, closed the session in seventh and eighth positions respectively, while Acosta could not surpass the ninth position on his factory KTM after his initial fall.
Joan Mir, from the Honda team, finished in thirteenth position, after being surpassed by his rival di Giannantonio. Brazilian rider Diogo Moreira had a good performance, with his best lap of 1m17.812s on his Honda bike.
The qualifying left the riders prepared for an intense competition that promises strong emotions during the Sunday race.
