Esteban Ocon takes his first victory in the GP3 Series in the first race of the championship that has been held in Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. The Frenchman done a great start that had been the key of the race. Ghiotto and Bernstorff completes the podium.
Esteban Ocon did an incredible start and arrived at first corner with the leadership of the race in front of Ghiotto and Bernstorff. The Mercedes young driver increased the gap during the first laps, and enjoy the whole race at front.
The only complicated thing for Ocon was when the safety car appears. The ART Grand Prix driver had to keep the attack of Ghiotto. But anyway it was a solid win for the new driver’s championship leader.
Behind the top 3, the race was all about the management tyres. Is for sure that the crash on lap 12 with Morris and Boschung at turn 10. This situation was perfect for Zaid Ashkanani who change his tyres and came back to twelfth place in front of his teammate, the Catalan, Alex Palou. The Campos driver started from fourth place, had a bad start and he couldn’t manage the tyres as much as he want to be on points positions.
It happens the same to Pal Varhaug, Oscar Tunjo, Mathéo Tuscher and Celis Jr who was fourth with just 3 laps to go.
Ocon can be the winner of the race but the protagonist was Jann Mardenborough who saved tyres during first laps and the attacked from fourth teen to fourth.
Antonio Fuoco finished on eight position and tomorrow will start from the pole position.
Ocon is now the championship leader with 27 points, 5 more than Luca Ghiotto who is second.
