In the qualifying session of the Formula Renault 1.6 NEC Junior this morning in sunny Spa it was Florian Janits (Lechner Racing School) who put himself on pole position. He was followed by Paul Sieljes (Stuart Racing Team) and Anton de Pasquale (Lechner Racing School) in third place. Janneau Esmeijer (Provily Racing Team) and Ralf Aron followed in fourth and fifth place.
The start of race 1 went well, but the man to beat was Anton de Pasquale (Lechner Racing School). In the first lap he overtook Paul Sieljes who fell back to fifth place and Florian Janits. Aron moved up behind Janits to third. De Pasquale took the checkered flag in first for his seventh win. Habsburg finished fourth. Janneau Esmeijer lost one place during the race to finish fifth, but is still second in the championship. Defourny started and finished 6th.
Some good fights for position were between Nico Otto (Captain Racing) who started 8th and finshed 7th and Oliver Söderström. Söderström drove a good race from 11th to finish 8th. Boris Kolff (Provily Racing Team) stayed in ninth place and Cédric Piro closes the top 10.
Again luck was not with the team of Liroy Stuart. Sieljes who will start from pole tomorrow, spun in lap three to finish in 11th place, while Marcel Lenerz had to put his car in the pitlane with engine problems.
Anton de Pasquale (Lechner Racing School): “After a dissapointing qualifying session, I overtook Janits and Sieljes in the first lap and controlled the race after that. I will start the race tomorrow from ninth, my worst qualifying result this season. I will see what will happen and then move forward to Zandvoort for the last three races of the season.”
Ralf Aron (Scuderia Nordica): “My start was great and moved straight up to third. Using slipstream here is very important so I tried catching Janits. After a good fight I could pass him. Happy to be second again”.
Florian Janits (Lechner Racing School): “In Spa to start from P1 is very difficult as you need slipsteam for a good speed and we need to work on my race pace. I start from P5 tomorrow so I’ll see what that race will bring me, but my focus is always to move forward.”
