David Schumacher gets F3 debut with Campos at Sochi

Ralf Schumacher’s son David will make his FIA Formula 3 (F3) Championship debut for Campos Racing at Sochi.

Schumacher, who is racing in the Formula Regional European Championship for US Racing, will make his F3 debut this weekend at Sochi for Campos in place of Alexander Peroni.

The Australian had a big crash at Monza when his car flipped over on the tyre barrier, with him suffering from back injuries. He has been advised rest and was known to miss the 2019 finale at Sochi.

Fresh from his double win at Barcelona, Schumacher will be racing alongside Alessio Deledda and Sebastian Fernandez. “I am really happy to join a high-profile team such as Campos Racing,” he said.

“It will be my first time driving a car like this so, we should be realistic and put our focus on learning as much as possible.” Meanwhile, Adrian Campos said: “I would like to extend a very warm welcome to such a talented driver as David.

“I am sure that he is definitely promising a brilliant future in motorsport. We are aiming at helping him progress his career.” It will be the first-time that two Schumacher – Mick and David – will race together in a F1 weekend.

As known, Mick will be competing for Prema in the FIA Formula 2 Championship. Meanwhile, The F3 championship will also be decided in Russia with the two Prema drivers in fray.

Ferrari junior Robert Shwartzman looks the likely one to take it with the 33 points advantage but Jehan Daruvala will be hot on heels as he pushes on for his first single-seater championship.
