David Malukas staged a spectacular comeback at the Borchetta Bourbon Music City Grand Prix, held in Nashville. Starting from the last position due to a knee injury, the Chicago driver overcame all obstacles and ended up hanging the bronze medal after leading 59 laps of the race.
This 24-year-old young man faced a complicated weekend, starting with a nine-position penalty on the grid for an unauthorized engine change. Additionally, during the first practice, Malukas suffered a serious accident that required him to be transported to a local hospital for evaluation. Faced with a diagnosis of a bruised knee, he missed qualifying and started the race from 25th position.
Despite this bad start, Malukas, alongside his team, implemented an aggressive tactic. Staying on track during the first caution period, he secured a crucial position and restarted the race in second place on lap 31. Just two laps later, he overtook Louis Foster, a driver from Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing, and took the lead while escaping from his teammate at Team Penske, Scott McLaughlin.
Malukas consolidated his advantage until lap 123 when a new yellow flag period complicated things, trapping him back in traffic. Despite the difficulties, he showed great determination and worked patiently to recover to third place before crossing the finish line.
After the intense competition, Malukas expressed his gratitude for the support of his team and the medical professionals. “It was a team effort. I had never driven so intensely in my life.
