David Croft calls for changes to the FIA before the British GP

David Croft, the lead commentator for Formula 1 on Sky Sports, has expressed his concern regarding the new FIA regulations introduced for 2026, just ahead of the upcoming British Grand Prix.

Croft warned that these regulations could negatively affect the iconic curves of Maggotts and Becketts. Aiming to maintain the essence of these sections of the Silverstone circuit, he calls for adjustments to be implemented before the race.

The current regulations are being reviewed during a brief pause in April, due to complaints from teams and drivers about the energy storage capacity of the cars. One of the most criticized points is the ability of the batteries to sustain high pace throughout a lap and during the entire race.

Issues with energy implementation became evident during a previous incident when Ollie Bearman suffered a high-speed crash during the Japanese GP. He collided with a slow car that was accumulating energy, resulting in a loss of control of his vehicle.

Croft added that he hopes these concerns are addressed before future competitions like the Silverstone GP, emphasizing that the quality of the curves should not be compromised. “I wouldn’t want the great corners like Maggotts and Becketts to become trivial sections,” he remarked.

For Croft, the solution might require fans to accept slower laps in exchange for a greater emphasis on internal combustion engines during qualifying and races, allowing drivers to compete at the highest level.
