Daniel Dye has announced that he will not continue with the Kaulig Racing Ram team after being reinstated by NASCAR, having completed a sensitivity training. His situation arose following an incident in which he made homophobic comments during a live broadcast.
On March 17, Dye was suspended by both NASCAR and Kaulig Racing due to behavior deemed inappropriate, where he imitated another IndyCar driver, David Malukas, using a derogatory tone. Following the incident, Dye apologized, acknowledging that he had been ‘negligent’ and had ‘chosen his words poorly.’
According to NASCAR regulations, any licensed member must not engage in conduct detrimental to the sport, including discriminatory comments. For his reinstatement, Dye had to complete the required sensitivity training.
This season, Dye had been selected to drive one of the five vehicles of Kaulig Racing as part of a RAM factory program in the manufacturer’s return to competition. After his suspension, AJ Allmendinger took the wheel of his truck number 10 in Darlington.
For his part, Corey LaJoie will take over the wheel of truck number 10 for the rest of the season. Kaulig Racing has released a statement accepting Dye’s resignation, wishing him success in his professional career.
Before his suspension, Dye had finished in 17th, 13th, and 17th place in his three races. Additionally, he had participated in the O’Reilly Auto Parts Series with results of 21, 20, and 15 places in three events.
Dye has expressed his gratitude for the opportunity experienced in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, showing optimism about his future and his goals as a driver in stock car racing.
