The driver Dani Clos has come back to GP2 this weekend in a good shape after one year and a half he last jumped to track. Clos has been racing for MP Motorsport for this Hungarian GP the car number 26.
Practise session on friday was a first contact for Dani for a car that was completely unknown for him. On qualifiying he was adapting to the car and improving every lap, an incident on track after going to box to get his tires changed did not allow Clos to improve further and finally qualified P23.
The saturday race did not started very well for both drivers of MP Motorsport, Clos and De Jong , after a false start, both cars had the same problem and the drivers were forced to start from the pit lane. Clos started to run an excellent comeback from rear place in the pit lane until P14. He quickly adapted to the car thanks to his experience and completed a race full of overtakes and achieving the same sector times that the leaders. After his pitstop he came back to track in the same position. When exiting from his car he said: “I overtook 10 cars in 3 laps, I really enjoyed a lot this race”.
On Sunday Clos started from P14 and he did it with the intention of getting some points for the team, unfortunately after lap 1, an incident involving drivers De Jong, Canamasas and Quaife-Hobbs did not let to Dani take advantage of this place. Nevertheless, he kept a very good rhythm improving every lap and scoring the same sector times that the race leaders.
In lap 10 Coletti bumpep with Clos, Coletti had to go to box to get his front wing changed and Clos to get his flat tire changed. Clos managed to get released to track but the steering was damaged, aborting all chances to completing a good weekend.
Despite the bad luck in some cases within this weekend, the overall balance is very positive, both for Dani Clos and Team MP Motorsport.
Dani Clos: “From the very first moment, I felt very comfortable with the team and my mate De Jong, it was a great welcome for me. It passed one year and a half from the last time I drove a GP2 car and I am very glad they fully trusted on me for this occasion, despite some unlucky issues, the result in general lines is quite positive and satisfactory, I adapted myself quick to a car I did not know, I kept a good rhythm in both races and I enjoyed a lot getting back to drive a GP2. I wish to thank again Team MP Motorsport for placing his trust in me and I hope to cooperate together and work for them in a near future.”
