Cyril Blais, director of Citroen’s team in Formula E, has died at the age of 46. This sad news was announced in a joint statement issued by Citroen, Stellantis, the Monaco Sports Group (MSG), and Formula E.
So far, the cause of his death has not been revealed, and the team has expressed the desire to maintain the privacy of his family. “We are profoundly saddened by the loss of Cyril,” commented Beth Paretta, director of Citroen Racing. “Many of us have known him and worked with him for years. Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and colleagues throughout the paddock.”
Cyril Blais began his career as an engineer in the support category for Formula 1, initially working for Manor Motorsport in Formula 3 before moving to Arden, where he became technical director in both F3 and Formula 2.
His journey in Formula E began in 2019 with Mahindra, where he spent almost three years as a race engineer. His link with the current Citroen team began in 2022 when he joined the MSG operation that managed Venturi, thus reuniting with Maximilian Guenther, with whom he had previously worked in F2.
After being promoted to team director in 2024, Blais was key in the team’s transition to Citroen the following year. Under his leadership, Maserati/Citroen achieved two victories, including this year’s at the Mexico City E-Prix.
Currently, Citroen is in seventh place in the championship with only four races remaining in Tokyo and London. The Stellantis brand will continue to compete in Formula E in the new Gen4 era that will start in Jeddah next December.
It has not yet been defined who will assume Blais’s responsibilities for the upcoming Tokyo E-Prix this weekend.
