LCR Honda’s Cal Crutchlow has been ruled out of MotoGP’s Australian Grand Prix at Phillip Island after a crash in the second practice session.
Crutchlow started the Australian MotoGP weekend in a good form to be fifth in the opening practice and he was running fifth in the second session as well until his unfortunate crash in Turn 1 which has forced him out of the whole weekend.
The British rider was visibly in pain after his fall. He was immediately taken to the medical center and then shifted to the hospital after it was understood that he is diagnosed with a bimalleolar fracture and anterior tibia part right ankle fracture.
The injury requires a surgery for which he was taken to the hospital. The crash comes amid a good run for Crutchlow especially after he took second in Honda’s home race at Twin Ring Motegi just the last weekend.
It also puts a brake on his participation in next weekend’s Malaysian Grand Prix at Sepang – it is yet to be known as to how much time Crutchlow will require to be healed from the injury and if can be ready by next Friday.
The team will continue on with its rookie rider Takaaki Nakagami who finished 16th and 18th in the two practice sessions respectively – the Japanese rider also had a crash in the FP2 session. No replacement will be announced for Australia.
