Coulthard says Kyalami circuit ready to host F1 after demo run

David Coulthard feels the Kyalami Circuit is ready to host F1 again after his demonstration run driving a Red Bull RB7.

F1 made its long-awaited return to the continent as David Coulthard raced around the historic Kyalami Circuit in Johannesburg, South Africa giving Africa its F1 homecoming after 31 years. Oracle Red Bull Racing unleashed the 2011 double-title winning car, the RB7, around the Kyalami Circuit as it roared along the The Kink into Crowthorne Corner.

The short film captured all the epic sights and sounds of the RB7 stampeding through the former season-opening circuit. Former F1 driver and Red Bull ambassador David Coulthard was joined by South African Car Spinner and Red Bull athlete, Samkeliso “SamSam” Thubane, who brought his remarkable talent and unique flair to the shoot, showcasing the passion and potential of South Africa’s motorsport scene on the global stage.

Set against the backdrop of Africa’s most iconic racetrack, the content provides a cinematic glimpse into what F1’s future on the continent could like were it to return home to South Africa. Through this film, Oracle Red Bull Racing cements its commitment to bringing F1 closer to fans around the world, inspiring new momentum for South Africa’s motorsport ambitions.

Former F1 driver and Red Bull ambassador David Coulthard said: “Driving the RB7 here at Kyalami was unforgettable, with the energy of the South African people and Kyalami’s world-class track, it’s clear the country is ready to rejoin the F1 calendar.”
