Corvette has announced a new version of its Z06 GT3.R, expected to hit the market in 2027. This new evolution, known as the Z06 GT3.R Evo, aims to improve the performance of a vehicle that has proven its success in various GT3 competitions, consolidating General Motors’ presence in modern racing.
Since its introduction in 2024, the Z06 GT3.R has achieved excellent results, but Corvette cannot rest on its laurels. In a competitive environment where brands like Mercedes and Toyota continue to develop their models, the American company seeks to foster its evolution to remain in the fight for victories.
Improvements of the new version
The Evo update will be presented in the fourth year of the vehicle’s homologation cycle, reflecting the experience gained during its previous seasons. Andrea Hidalgo, head of the Corvette Racing program, has indicated that several aspects to improve have been identified from three years of competition.
The improvements include an update of the electronic systems, with greater processing power to better control the vehicle’s systems. These modifications will require new wiring installations to be distributed throughout the car, as well as drain screens to help reduce waste buildup in the radiator.
Testing and preparations
Corvette has been testing the new version over the past year with the participation of factory drivers. So far, four tests have been conducted without significant incidents. Hidalgo has assured that the car’s homologation is nearly complete, and that the goal now is to prepare for the delivery of the update to the teams.
The teams, such as TF Sport, competing in the LMGT3 category of the World Endurance Championship, will be some of the first to receive the updates at the end of October, aiming to prepare for the debut of the new version at the 24 Hours of Daytona in January 2027.
The Z06 GT3.R has achieved victories at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and Daytona, as well as the GTD Pro title in the IMSA SportsCar championship, and now Corvette is seeking its first global victory at the 24 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps since 2009, in addition to competing in the tough 24 Hours of Nürburgring race.
