Welcome to the eighth meeting of GP2 season
Today competition has started with the practice before qualifying. Prior to this practice a slight rain turn up towards to the circuit. Track condition was with some humidities which made in the morning a quite difficult drive conditions. Lap by lap weather conditions (20C) and cars were drying the track. Five dry compounds: 3 hard tyres and 2 soft tyres. Also 2 wet tyres will be used during the meeting. A hard set should be returned to the organization. As a news Frinjs has come back in this race with Hilmer Motorsport and Dani Clos has been confirmed for this race with MP Motorsport.
The fastest of the session has been the leader of the championship Coletti, followed closely by Calado and Leimer, the track conditions have improved in the second part of the session much drier. In the first part of the track conditions were still damp. Very difficult to stay on track with dry tyres but not enough wet to use wet tires. A thin but steady rain was just enough to damp the track but it was evaporated due to temperature and the passage of the cars in the second part of the session.
In this grand prix will be very important pit stops with this unpredictable weather characteristic of this area of Belgium, an entry in the pit right time to make a change of tires can make a difference in the race.
On the other hand the commitment of car setup between first sector (low downforce needed) and the last two sectors (high downforce needed that require a greater downforce) and of course tyre degradation
All drivers are shown exalted after the summer break and return to the races and especially with the posibility of driving their cars over for the legendary Eau Rouge. Bird is recovering points from the third round of the championship to the leader Coletti, Nasr meanwhile is very consistent what is making him to continue championship fight, do not forget Calado and Leimer, they have been so fast in recent races they are in a good moment
The qualyfing will begin at 16 o’clock. It is supposed to be in good conditions with an ambient temperature higher than practice but Spa Francorchamps is a circuit where conditions can change suddenly
