Monegasque Stefano Coletti and Spanish Sergio Canamasas have been called for the first week-end of the FIA F2 championship in Bahrain.
Prior to the first week-end of the FIA F2 season in Bahrain, two teams are yet to have announced an official second driver for this season: Campos Racing and Trident. Both teams had some difficulties last year and decided to choose experienced drivers for this week-end.
Although he has not been officialised by the Italian team, Sergio Canamasas did all winter testing programme for Trident. The Spanish driver comes back to the team he raced in 2014 with, bringing him his best result in the category, a second place in Monaco. The Spaniard starts his sixth season in GP2/F2 as he started in 2012 with Lazarus. He will team up with Nabil Jeffri who starts his second season in the series, his first one with Trident.
Campos decided for a suprising come-back with the Monegasque driver Stefano Coletti. Despite a certain will to sign Roberto Merhi, it seems that the deal could not be completed. Same for Raoul Hyman who tested for them in Bahrain. At 28 years old, the Monegasque returns to the category he started in in 2009. He remained there for five seasons, seven victories including one in Monaco where he became the second local driver to win a Monaco Grand Prix (Stéphane Richelmi followed one year later). After one season in Indycar and a third place in ELMS in LMP2 in 2016, the Monegasque will team up with Ralph Boschung for what seems to be an exceptional participation into the championship.
