Cleetus McFarland, driver for Richard Childress Racing, has announced that NASCAR has not granted him approval to race at O’Reilly Superspeedway. In a video recently shared on his social media, McFarland explained that the regulatory body has requested more experience in the ARCA and Truck categories before he can compete in superspeedway races.
McFarland stated that his recent performance in a race was quite intense. “It was a hectic day. I tried to make a three-wide pass on the third lap and ended up spinning out. I didn’t cause any accidents, but the race was pretty chaotic,” he commented.
Currently, McFarland has one year of experience in NASCAR and has made it clear that it is not his priority to quickly ascend to the higher categories. “Above all, I want to accumulate more hours on the track, whether in an O’Reilly car, in ARCA, or in Truck. I need to learn a lot more,” he said.
His team, Richard Childress Racing, considers it essential for McFarland to gain more experience in races prior to O’Reilly before competing at Daytona and Talladega next year. The team director, Danny Lawrence, had anticipated this situation and expressed the need for McFarland to participate in an additional race to meet NASCAR’s requirements.
