Chris Gabehart responds to JGR’s restraining accusations

Chris Gabehart, former competition director of Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR), has recently responded to accusations from his ex-team, which claims he violated a temporary restraining order. The accusations arise after an incident during the weekend at the Bristol Motor Speedway, where JGR presented photographs as evidence in its litigation against Gabehart.

According to the legal proceedings, JGR alleges a ‘brazen plan’ by Gabehart to steal and share private information. In response to the accusations, Gabehart and his legal team have asked the court to ignore the file that JGR presented, labeling it as an improper attempt to introduce evidence outside the process agenda.

A judge issued a temporary restraining order allowing Gabehart to work at Spire Motorsports, but prohibiting him from performing similar duties to those he formerly held at JGR. Gabehart has continued to attend NASCAR Cup races, under the scrutiny of JGR, which seeks to gather more evidence.

Gabehart has defended his position, arguing that he wasn’t acting as the competition director during the event in Bristol. He compared his role to figures like Joe Gibbs and Jeff Gordon, who also act as executives during races. According to Gabehart, his routine included using radio devices to listen to team traffic, but not to communicate on competition issues.

Furthermore, his legal team has pointed out that a new contract with LEGACY Motor Club for a former JGR COO, Michael Gutilla, demonstrates that JGR does not consider its information to be so sensitive as to prevent former employees from working at competitors.

In his defense, Gabehart reviewed the photographs presented by JGR, clarifying that he wasn’t performing competition director duties and that he was simply observing the television coverage of the event from the grandstand.
