Chaz Mostert, Supercars champion, joins Lexus for IMSA race in Detroit

The defending Supercars champion, Chaz Mostert, will co-drive the No. 15 Lexus RC F GT3 vehicle with Aaron Telitz for the Vasser Sullivan team on May 30 at the Detroit circuit.

This will be the first time Mostert competes in a 100-minute race in downtown Detroit, integrating into the GTD Pro championship. However, the 34-year-old driver already has experience in IMSA, with three participations in the Rolex 24, where he achieved a class victory with the BMW Team RLL in 2020. He also competed in the 2018 edition of the Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta.

Mostert’s record includes 28 victories in Supercars, including two at the Bathurst 1000, as well as the title in 2025. Additionally, he has secured a Pro-Am victory in 2023 at the 24 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps, a class win in 2016 at the 6 Hours of Bathurst, and an overall win in 2023 at the 12 Hours of Bathurst. He also claimed a GT Australia title in 2024 and a TCR Australia title in 2021.

Mostert has expressed his excitement about this new chapter, stating: “I am very excited to have the opportunity to race for Vasser Sullivan. I have raced in the United States several times and have always thought that the team is very professional and like a close-knit family, so it’s an honor to be able to race for them. The Lexus RC F GT3 is amazing, and I can’t wait to make my first laps. It’s a special moment for me as an Australian driver, and I can’t wait to get to Detroit, as I love street racing and I am ready for the challenge. Thanks to my Supercars team, Walkinshaw TWG Racing, for allowing me to participate.

The Detroit Grand Prix will be broadcast live and from flag to flag by NBC and Peacock on Saturday, May 30, starting at 4 p.m. EDT.
