After losing the lead at the first corner, Charles Leclerc managed to get in back to claim his second victory of the season ahead of Alexander Albon and Nyck De Vries for an ART GP 1-2-3.
Charles Leclerc started on pole position ahead of Alexander Albon and Nyck De Vries. Albon made a terrific start while Leclerc lost two place. He eventually managed to get them back before turn 4 and finished the first lap in the lead. Santino Ferrucci found himself spinning at the first corner in the middle of the field. Leclerc started to set fastest lap over fastest lap until Jake Dennis stopped his car on track, provoking the intervention of the virtual safety car.
Ferrucci got a ten seconds penalty following the contact at the start of the race. Further back in the field, there was an intern battle within Arden International with Tatiana Calderon and Jack Aitken battling for eleventh place, the British driver overtaking the Colombian. Alex Palou had a huge moment at turn 7 and managed to find the exit way after the gravel trap.
Halfway through the race, Leclerc had a three second margin over Albon. Behind them, drama was avoided by nothing between Kevin Jörg, Steijn Schothorst and Calderon, wheel to wheel on the straight line. The Dutchman faced a problem and had to pit to go again. Jörg got a ten-second penalty for that incident.
At lap 18, rain started to fall at turn two. The top three did not forecast it and they all went wide at turn two, with no change in the order. Oscar Tunjo, after losing his right mirror in qualifying, had to hold off his second mirror to avoid it from breaking and hitting him in the face or falling on track. The Colombian driver was being shown the black and orange flag and had to pit at the last lap to fix his mirror.
With two laps to go, the gap between Leclerc and Albon dropped as the Monegasque went wide once again at turn 1 but the Thai could never threaten him. On the last lap, Richard Gonda had to retire following a contact with Konstantin Tereschenko.
Charles Leclerc claimed his second win of the year ahead of Alexander Albon and Nyck De Vries for an ART Grand Prix 1-2-3. The Monegasque also claimed the fastest lap of the race. Boschung, Fuoco, Parry, Fukuzumi, Hughes, Aitken and Stuvik completed the top 10.
