After a very “crazy” beginning Cecotto won the first race of Catalonia followed by Palmer and Nasr.
It began with a false start that led to confusion and has made everything start again.
The official start was crazy. While those who had stayed with the engine off -Richelmi, Vandoorne, Izawa and Regalia lstarted from the pit lane- Abt and Marciello touched in an attempt to overtake in the first turn and said goodbye to the race. Coletti has risked too much and was out of the race as well.
After so much hype in such a short time, the safety car had to bring order out while they were removing all vehicles from the track. Regalia also left in a crash.
The safety car left in lap 3 and Palmer used this to to lead the race.
The positions were already beginning to distance and it was time to stop and go to boxes.
Every minute the leader changed and all the drivers went to change tyres.
Nevertheless, Cecotto began to dominate the race firmly, followed by Dillman. Markelov, Binder and Daly completed the top 5.
While nothing was happening on the track, it is noteworthy that Vandoorne (leaving the pit lane) was 9th and ready to overtake Richelmi.
And also while things were quiet and stayed the same, Rossi, who is a candidate for the title, abandoned the race surprisingly.
They were in the last laps of the race 1 and top positions were not moving.
A few laps to go, drivers had to come back to boxes to change tyres. Cecotto was the first to enter and lost the position.
It then began again a constant change of leadership.
When the things were stable, Cecotto was again first with Palmer and Nasr completing the podium.
Nothing changed and everything stayed the same. The Trident driver won the Race 1 in Barcelona. Palmer is the first in the drivers’ championship.
