Envision Virgin’s Nick Cassidy was fastest rookie of all to end the Marrakesh Formula E test from GEOX Dragon’s Sergio Sette Camara and DS Techeetah’s Filipe Albuquerque.
Reigning Super Formula and Super GT champion Cassidy showed solid pace in the lone Marrakesh Formula E rookie test as he set a 1m16.467s to beat the previous best of 1m16.910s, which was set by current GEOX Dragon’s Nico Mueller.
Cassidy had Camara behind him with a 1m16.930s with Albuquerque in third ahead of DS Techeetah teammate Nicolas Lapierre. The Frenchman was confirmed at the last moment after James Rossiter drove the car during Marrakesh Formula E ePrix’s FP1.
He replaced ill Jean-Eric Vergne. Both Albuquerque and Lapierre haven’t had single-seater runs for several years but did well in the Formula E rookie test. BMW Andretti’s Kyle Kirkwood slotted in fifth, coming in from America where he is to race in Indy Lights.
Venturi reserve Norman Nato was sixth with Mercedes’ Jake Hughes seventh ahead of BMW Andretti’s Lucas Auer as Audi’s Kevin can der Linde and Jaguar Racing’s Sacha Fenestraz rounded out the Top 10 – the former was the last to be under a second of Cassidy.
Mercedes’ Dani Juncadella was 11th as he just missed a Top 10 slot with Audi’s Mattia Drudi 12th ahead of MRF Challenge and W Series champion Jamie Chadwick in the Jaguar Racing car with Nissan’s Mitsunori Takaboshi and Porsche’s Thomas Preining in Top 15.
Mahindra Racing’s Pipo Derani slotted in 16th with Nissan’s Jann Mardenborough in 17th ahead of GEOX Dragon’s Joel Eriksson, Venturi’s Arthur Leclerc, Mahindra’s Sam Dejonghe in the Top 20, where the latter stopped on the circuit at one point.
The 24 runners were rounded out by Envision Virgin’s Alice Powell in 21st, NIO’s Antonio Fuococo 22nd & Daniel Cao 23rd and Porsche’s Frederic Makowiecki 24th.
