Carson Hocevar, driver of Spire Motorsports, has expressed his gratitude for the wealth of NASCAR’s history and has confirmed that he does not see himself as the legendary Dale Earnhardt. However, he does not hesitate to accept some of the characteristics that made him unique.

The driver highlighted that his sponsor, Chili’s Bar & Grill, wanted to pay tribute to the seven-time NASCAR champion during the spring race at Darlington, even though official retro events were no longer being held. Thus, a design inspired by the 1981 season was born, a significant year in Earnhardt’s career.

Hocevar explained that the parallels with Earnhardt are not to his liking, and he said it bothers him that people compare him to the mythical driver. “I am myself, and I like being this way,” he commented regarding his personality on the track.

One of the inspirations he has confessed to have for paying tribute to the historical figure is the style of cowboy hats worn by drivers like Earnhardt and Richard Petty, as a way to blend the past with the present.

The idea for the car design was initially proposed by Chili’s. Although at first Hocevar did not understand the choice of colors, he ended up realizing that they wanted to recreate a distinctive image while fitting with the theme of their brand.

With this initiative, both Hocevar and his sponsor want to ensure that their tribute to Earnhardt is memorable and stands out among the rest during the race, thus creating a nostalgic connection with NASCAR fans.
