Sergio Sette Camara has re-joined the Red Bull family as he is named its new reserve driver alongside Sebastien Buemi for the 2020 F1 season.

A day after announcing his departure from McLaren from its development driver role, Camara has been named as the new reserve driver of Red Bull and AlphaTauri for the 2020 F1 season. He re-joins the family as he will share his role with Buemi.

The Swiss Formula E racer has been part of the Red Bull team for several years despite losing the AlphaTauri seat. He has undertaken several tests, showruns and has done simulator work with the team in his role, which will be similar for Camara.

“I am extremely happy to join the Red Bull family as Official Test & Reserve driver for the 2020 Formula One season alongside Sebastian,” said Camara. “I’ve been watching F1 since I was five years old and I’m humbled to have been given this opportunity to work with Aston Martin Red Bull Racing and Scuderia AlphaTauri.”

The team also noted about the F1 superlience points Camara has, which he obtained after finishing fourth in the 2018 F2 season. While he returns to the Red Bull fold, it remains to be seen if the Brazilian will be racing elsewhere full-time or part-time.

As noted before, he tested with Carlin in IndyCar and there is every chance that Camara may get a seat with the British team which has Max Chilton in a limited schedule. Earlier, McLaren confirmed his departure to FormulaRapida.net when asked.

Camara was part of Red Bull family in 2016 when he raced with Team Motopark in the European F3 championship. The Brazilian finished 11th with just the lone podium to his name. He then lost the backing for 2017 and joined McLaren in 2018.
