The Cadillac Formula 1 team has announced that it will bring a “new substantial update package” for the Austrian Grand Prix this weekend. This marks a new stage for the American team, which, despite starting as one of the last placed, has made notable progress thanks to constant improvements in its car, the MAC-26.
The latest improvements include a rear wing and a new exhaust system that were already introduced during the Monaco GP, along with additional cooling aids and a new wing in the Barcelona test. In the qualifying session, Sergio Pérez was just 1.9 seconds off the fastest Q1 time, outperforming the Aston Martins by 1.2 seconds.
With the aim of finishing this phase of the season with good performance, team director Graeme Lowdon commented that races are now presented consecutively, which adds complexity to the team’s logistics. “We are pleased to be able to present this update package this weekend. With the new sidepods and a new chassis, we hope to continue our progress in the standings,” he said.
Pérez, who missed the chance to score points after a tumultuous race in Monaco, has expressed his confidence in the new parts to help the team gain ground. “Every race seems like we are making progress, and we have gained a lot of knowledge by completing the test in Barcelona. The development rate is very good, and we are working at maximum capacity to bring new parts to the track,” the Mexican driver said.
