Cadillac F1 owners, Mark Walter and TWG Global, implicated in class action lawsuit

The future of the Cadillac F1 project is hanging in the balance after its main shareholder, Mark Walter, became the center of a class action lawsuit. This lawsuit, filed in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida, alleges that Walter and his companies, TWG Global and other institutions, participated in illegal activities aimed at concealing federal investigations and diverting funds intended for policyholders.

According to the filed documents, the insurance companies related to Walter allegedly used policyholder funds to finance a broader business network. This network reportedly allowed Walter to acquire stakes in sports franchises, including the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Los Angeles Lakers, before entering the motorsport world with TWG Motorsport.

The lawsuit, which includes 67 plaintiffs, claims that the insurance companies have concealed crucial financial information. A spokesperson for Group 1001 Insurance acknowledged the existence of the lawsuit but defended that ‘no court has ruled that Group 1001 Insurance or Delaware Life Insurance Company has committed any illegality, and we intend to vigorously defend ourselves.’

TWG Global, as an investment and operational partner of Cadillac F1, is closely involved in this situation. Nevertheless, it will not currently affect track operations, and no criminal charges have been filed against the executives. However, the controversy raises questions about the future of Walter’s sports investments.

Recently, Walter has agreed to sell stakes in both sports franchises and has been subject to increased scrutiny over his business practices. In response to these events, the parent company of Cadillac F1 asserted that there is no intention to sell its Formula 1 assets.

‘TWG is not considering the sale of the Cadillac team or any other component of TWG Motorsport,’ the company firmly stated during the recent Dutch Grand Prix.
