The CEO of Cadillac Racing, Dan Towriss, has denied speculation linking Formula 2 driver Rafael Camara to a possible promotion to the Formula 1 team in 2027. However, he added that “things can always change” in this sport.
The information about Camara emerged during the Hungarian Grand Prix, where it was indicated that the team, which uses Ferrari engines, was monitoring the young driver with the aim of making him competitive next year.
As the current Formula 3 champion, Camara has made an impact during his debut season in F2, achieving four pole positions in the last six qualifiers and winning two races, thus occupying the third place in the drivers’ championship, just 22 points behind the leader Nikola Tsolov.
If Cadillac were to opt to integrate Camara into their lineup, it would mean the departure of one of the veteran drivers, Sergio Pérez or, more likely, Valtteri Bottas, who has been slightly slower than his teammate.
In a recent press conference dedicated to the appointment of Marcin Budkowski as the new team director, Towriss commented that bringing in a younger driver could boost the team, but he was clear in stating that the speculation about Camara was not founded. “It is not our focus at this moment,” he declared.
Towriss added that while there are no immediate changes planned for the 2027 season, the landscape in Formula 1 is very dynamic, and “decisions can change suddenly”. Thus, the uncertainty about the future of the Cadillac formation remains open, with Camara being one of the names discussed on the F2 tracks.
