BWT and Alpine have joined hands to be partners from this year as Bahrain and F1 ink a new deal to remain together until 2036 season.
After BWT departed from Aston Martin, the company were strongly rumoured to join Alpine from 2022 onward along with Otmar Szafnauer joining the outfit. While the latter is yet to be confirmed, the former’s signing has been announced on Friday.
The team will be named as ‘BWT Alpine F1 Team’ with its famous pink colour to be incorporated alongside the corporate blue. The partnership is aimed as a sustainable drive with BWT’s ‘Change the World – sip by sip’ campaign included.
They will implement the Bottle Free Zone concept as part of the deal. It is a multi-year contract with the extent of the deal not put into numbers. “We are excited to announce that BWT will be the title partner for Alpine F1 Team for the next years,” said Cedric Journel from Alpine.
“Both Alpine’s and BWT’s sustainability agendas are fully aligned on eliminating single use plastics and we are pleased to join forces to convince many people around the globe, our employees, partners, customers and fans to reduce plastic waste. In parallel we will use the huge global platform F1 provides to support BWT in their fight against the unfair distribution of clean, safe and healthy drinking water.”
At the same time, Lutz Hubner, CMO of BWT, added: “We are proud to become part of BWT Alpine F1 Team as its title partner. With our unique and patented water treatment technologies and Alpine’s large global following, we can help to ‘Change the world – sip by sip’. The first stage will be to create BWT Bottle Free Zones across all the Alpine factories and at race events.
“The joining of forces to increase awareness, as well as to fight for sustainability, aligns BWT and Alpine perfectly. Besides that, BWT has been investing for more than two decades in the development of membranes for our future hydrogen-powered economy.
“We are meanwhile one of the world’s leading suppliers in membranes for the production of green hydrogen and in membranes for fuel cells – the energy converter of the 21st century. Together with our new partners, we will contribute to emission-free racing and sustainable fuel cell electric mobility.”
In another news, Bahrain and F1 have inked a new contract which will see the grand prix remain on the calendar until the 2036 season. Counting the 2022 into the deal, it is a massive singing of 15 years which is by far the biggest in F1’s history.
“I am delighted we will be racing at the Bahrain International Circuit until 2036 where more incredible racing and excitement will be on show to thrill our fans,” said Stefano Domenicali. “Since 2004 we have had some fantastic races in Sakhir and we cannot wait to be back there for the start of the 2022 championship as we begin a new era for the sport.
“Bahrain was the first country in the Middle East to welcome Formula 1 and it has a very Formula 1 announces it will race in Bahrain until 2036 special place in our sport, and I personally want to thank HRH Prince Salman and his team for their dedication and hard work throughout our partnership and look forward to the many years of racing ahead of us.”
Meanwhile, Arif Rahimi, Chairman of Bahrain International Circuit, stated: “It has been a great honour for Bahrain to host Formula 1 since 2004 and we are delighted that this new commitment cements our place on the calendar well into the future.
“Our commitment to motorsport has always been a long-term initiative and I thank Stefano and his team at F1 for putting their faith in us to continue to deliver the pinnacle of global racing at The Home of Motorsport in the Middle East.”
At the same time, Sheikh Salman bin Isa Al Khalifa, Chief Executive of Bahrain International Circuit, added: “After 18 years of F1 racing, we are proud to have played a part in F1’s rich history and we now looking forward to continuing to build on that heritage well into the future. The growth and interest in Motorsport in Bahrain and the Middle East has significant momentum, with a new generation of fans embracing our great sport and we look forward to continuing that progress.”
