Martin Brundle is the lone figure from motorsport fraternity to feature on the United Kingdom’s New Year Honours list for 2025 on the eve of New Year.
After Red Bull’s Christian Horner took his Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) for being named on the 2024 New Year Honours list, the 2025 list features only Brundle under the Officer of the British Empire (OBE) for his services to motor racing and broadcasting.
Brundle has been part of the Sky Sports team since its launch in 2012 after spells with BBC and ITV. He has curtailed his F1 commentating and punditry role off-late due to age and expanding F1 calendar, but he remains a core part of the broadcasting team on British television.
Prior to his commentary role, Brundle raced in F1 between 1984 and 1996 for various teams and secured nine podiums in all. His sporstcar racing career showed better results which included a drivers’ championship in 1988 with Jaguar and a Le Mans 24 Hours win in 1990.
Brundle joins a long list of motor racing personalities to be honoured in the United Kingdom’s New Year Honours list. The OBE honour is second in line after CBE, with knighthood being the ultimate honour above CBE. The last from motor sport to be bestowed with this honour was Sir Lewis Hamilton in 2021.
