Zak Brown will not bet with his drivers in F1 anymore after he lost another to Oscar Piastri when he picked up his first win in Hungarian GP.
Much like how Brown did with Daniel Ricciardo and Lando Norris after their wins with McLaren, where the American had to tattoo the circuit map on his shoulder, an unofficial bet was also made with Piastri, who scored his first win in Hungarian GP.
For the wins of Ricciardo and Norris, the McLaren boss got the circuit map of Monza and Miami on his shoulder. But with Piastri, it was the different. The Australian noted that it more on the sides of an unofficial handshake on getting a papaya mohawk.
While Brown didn’t actually get a mohawk cut, the American improvised to put on hat/wig resembling a papaya mohawk ahead of the F1 Belgian in the pit garage. He was seen smiling and laughing with his McLaren team including Piastri and Norris.
“It won’t be a tattoo, he already made that one very clear,” said Piastri ahead of the weekend. We never actually shook on anything but the last thing we discussed which got some traction was a papaya mohawk. So I have reminded him of that and lets see when it comes up.”
In a clarification from McLaren, the team noted that Brown will not be promising any bets in the future. “You may have seen pre-race footage of Zak in our garage wearing a mohawk wig,” it stated. “For context (no quotes) he lost a bet to Oscar that meant when Oscar won his first race Zak would have to shave his head into a mohawk and die it Papaya. Obviously not quite the real thing! Zak has promised to stop betting our drivers.”
