Brodie Kostecki wins in Melbourne after an accident that reduces the Albert Park final

Brodie Kostecki, driver of the Dick Johnson Racing Ford Mustang GT, has achieved his third victory of the weekend in a final race affected by an accident at the Albert Park circuit in Melbourne. With a dominant performance, Kostecki took the lead in the final stages of the race, forcing Will Brown of Triple Eight into an error on the penultimate lap, allowing him to win by a margin of 1.75 seconds.

In addition to the victory, Kostecki takes home the Larry Perkins Trophy for the round and solidifies his lead in the championship, surpassing Broc Feeney, who had been the second winner at Albert Park. “It has been a fantastic weekend,” said Kostecki after his second victory of this trophy.

After Kostecki, Will Brown achieved a commendable second place, leaving behind a series of poor performances. “He was the driver to watch from the start. He forced me into an error. I’m excited to have a good result instead of being a victim of chaos,” Brown commented.

The third place went to Thomas Randle of Tickford Racing, who started the race from the front row and managed to climb onto the podium, celebrating his first podium in nearly a year. Randle acknowledged that “we couldn’t match Kostecki’s pace, who has made a very fast car.”

Accident at the start of the race

The race was marked by a spectacular accident at the start, where Ryan Wood and Kai Allen collided, causing immediate damage to their vehicles. This incident resulted in a series of collisions that knocked Broc Feeney out of the competition, who was leading the championship before the race.

The teams now face a significant challenge to repair the damaged cars for the upcoming double-header in New Zealand, which will take place from April 10 to 12. With this successful weekend, Kostecki now leads the standings with 485 points, followed by Cam Waters with 467 and Feeney with 455 points.
