British GP: Stroll fastest in FP2 as Albon’s crash hurts qualifying trim

British GP

Racing Point’s Lance Stroll ended up fastest in F1 British GP FP2 from Red Bull Racing’s Alexander Albon and Mercedes’ Valtteri Bottas.

Stroll timed his fastest lap well as he ended up fastest in FP2 of F1 British GP at Silverstone with a 1m27.274s lap ahead of Albon (1m27.364s) and Bottas (1m27.431s) as majority of drivers couldn’t complete their qualifying trim due to red flag.

It came at a time when drivers were looking to set their best time. In fact, Albon, who crashed heavily at Stowe after losing his rear to cause the red flag, was also on a quick lap. He spun and rammed onto the barrier sideways as he was taken to medical center.

Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc (1m27.570s) was fourth with Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton (1m27.581s) in fifth from McLaren’s Carlos Sainz (1m27.820s) and the returning Nico Hulkenberg (1m27.910s) in his Racing Point car.

The Top 10 had AlphaTauri’s Pierre Gasly (1m27.997s) in eighth with Renault’s Daniel Ricciardo (1m28.112s) ninth and Alfa Romeo Racing’s Kimi Raikkonen (1m28.159s) 10th as McLaren’s Lando Norris (1m28.169s) just missed out in 11th.

The Brit had brake issues during the session as well but McLaren were able to fix the issue. Renault’s Esteban Ocon (1m28.219s) slotted in 12th with Alfa Romeo’s Antonio Giovinazzi (1m28.256s) in 13th and Red Bull’s Max Verstappen (1m28.390s) only 14th.

The Dutch was the sole driver to have his time on the medium compound as his fastest lap was disturbed by Haas’ Romain Grosjean. The Frenchman was 16th with a 1m28.564s lap as AlphaTauri’s Daniil Kvyat (1m28.426s) was just ahead in 15th.

Williams’ George Russell (1m28.771s) lined up in 17th with Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel (1m28.860s) only 18th as he suffered with paddle issues and couldn’t get a quicker lap. Haas’ Kevin Magnussen (1m28.898s) ended up 19th with Williams’ Nicholas Latifi (1m29.958s) 20th.
