George Russell led a Mercedes 1-2 in a wet FP3 of F1 British GP with Lewis Hamilton second ahead of Lando Norris.

It was a wet FP3 in F1 British GP at Silverstone which caught out several drivers which included Red Bull’s Max Verstappen doing a 360, while Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc & Carlos Sainz, McLaren’s Lando Norris, Stake’s Valtteri Bottas having their off moments too.

Alpine’s Pierre Gasly paid a heavy price after spinning onto the gravel to bring out the red flag. There was an investigation against Visa Cash App RB’s Daniel Ricciardo for pitlane infringement after he was weaving heavily in the pitlane.

It was Mercedes 1-2 in the end with Russell (1m37.529s) topping FP3 in F1 British GP from Hamilton, as Norris was third from Sainz and Verstappen in the Top 5. The other Ferrari of Leclerc was sixth from McLaren’s Oscar Piastri.

A late lap from Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso helped him to be eighth and drop Red Bull’s Sergio Perez to ninth with Haas’ Nico Hulkenberg rounding the Top 10. The wet conditions meant everyone had their lap times set on the intermediate tyre, with no dry running at all.

Williams’ Alexander Albon was 11th ahead of Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll, whose late improvement dropped the other Williams of Logan Sargeant to 13th ahead of the first Visa Cash App RB of Yuki Tsunoda and Bottas in the Top 15.

Alpine’s Esteban Ocon was only 16th from Haas’ Kevin Magnussen, with Visa Cash App RB’s Ricciardo 18th and Stake’s Zhou Guanyu 19th, as Alpine’s Gasly did not set a lap time.

UPDATE: Ricciardo was reprimanded for his pitlane weaving incident. Here: https://www.fia.com/sites/default/files/decision-document/2024%20British%20Grand%20Prix%20-%20Infringement%20-%20Car%203%20-%20Pit%20lane%20incident.pdf
