Brazil GP is firm to happen in 2021 as per Governor, date could change

Governor of Sao Paulo, Joao Doria, said that the Brazil GP is firm to take place in 2021 amid vaccination drive, but the date could change still.

Presently, Brazil GP is set for the November 5-7 weekend, which forms the third grand prix in a triple header, starting with the US GP where Mexico GP is the second race. The date could change to November 12-14 weekend, as per Governor, Doria.

In a special press conference on Monday, Doria all but confirmed that the 2021 Brazil GP – which is likely to be run as Sao Paulo GP – will take place amid ongoing enhanced vaccination drive in the State, where they aim to vaccinate 99% people by October.

As FormulaRapida.net revealed back in July, the aim was to vaccinate everyone by September, but it looks like, it will now be achieved by October – still ahead of time for the grand prix, which will allow for full capacity in the grandstands.

The use of masks will be mandatory, though, along with negative virus test, to enter the circuit. They have already sold good number of tickets and are likely to have a new batch, once they achieve good number of people vaccinated – majorly 18-years and above.

The date push is mostly due to the State wanting to use Proclamation of the Republic holiday, which falls on November 15. Another reason could be that Brazil falls in the red list for traveling, by the United Kingdom Government.

The Governor is hoping that when they update their list next in August, Brazil will be degraded from red zone, which will allow host of F1 personnel to travel. In addition to the above, Doria also discussed about the Sprint Qualifying trial.

After Silverstone and Monza, the Interlagos circuit was always supposed to host the flyaway trial, which Doria says will happen at their venue. With Brazil looking confident, all eyes are on Mexico to see if they can carry on, as well.

A second race at the Circuit of the Americas is being deliberated, should the race like Japan, Mexico and Brazil, doesn’t happen in the second half. They are yet to announce a replacement for Australia, after Turkey was announced to replace Singapore.
