Valtteri Bottas set the fastest time in a very tight FP3 as the top 4 was gathered in 0.058s.
The weather, as dry as it was, was way colder than on Friday with dark clouds. Ten minutes into the session, Lance Stroll (Williams) had to stop his car on track, complaining about a gearbox issue. The Virtual Safety Car had to be deployed to get rid of the car.
The cold temperatures led to a lot of understeer for the drivers and Max Verstappen (Red Bull) almost lost it to the wall in the penultimate turn with less than 5 minutes left on the clock.
In the end, Valtteri Bottas (Mercedes) set the fastest lap with a 1:09.281. He led Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) by only 3 thousandths. The Ferrari got closer as Kimi Räikkönen was 3rd 4 hundredths adrift and Sebastian Vettel 0.058s away from the fastest time. Daniel Ricciardo (Red Bull Racing) was way further down 9 tenths away from Bottas.
Fernando Alonso (McLaren) ended a satisfying session in 6th place, a bit more than one second adrift from the fastest time. Both Force India of Sergio Perez and Esteban Ocon followed as Max Verstappen (Red Bull Racing) set his fastest time with soft tyres. Carlos Sainz completed the top 10 with his Renault.
