Rene Binder will complete ART GP GP2 Series line-up for the fourth round of the season at Red Bull Ring.

Following Nobuharu Matsushita’s exclusion of the round 4 of GP2 Series after his dangerous behavior during Baku’s sprint race, ART GP had to choose a driver to take over the Japanese for the week-end. The French squad decided to take an experienced driver in GP2 to do so in the name of Rene Binder.

Binder was racing in GP2 between 2012 and 2015 with as best result a 6th place in the sprint race of Monza in 2013 with Lazarus GP. Binder is currently racing in Formula V8 3.5 with Lotus, scored two podiums this season and stands currently fourth in the championship. He claims:

First of all I want to thank ART Grand Prix for this great opportunity to drive their car at my home race in Spielberg. I like GP2 but I still have some unfinished business with it so I always said that if there was a chance to get a drive with a top team within the season I would not hesitate to take the challenge.”

Sébastien Philippe, ART GP Team manager claims:

We are really happy to welcome Rene in the team and to offer him the opportunity to drive at his home race this weekend. We will do our best, as we always do with all our drivers, to get the best possible result in Spielberg.”

After this week-end racing on home soil, Binder will get back to Formula V8, the next round being at Silverstone July 23th. Matsushita will get his seat back next week-end at Silverstone.
