Marco Bezzecchi, rider for the Aprilia Racing team, has secured pole position for the Thailand Grand Prix of MotoGP, despite suffering a crash in the final stages of qualifying. Bezzecchi was about to improve his previous time when he lost control of his bike at turn 12.
His best lap, at 1:28.652, placed him ahead of Marc Márquez, who finished second with a time of 1:28.687, just 35 thousandths slower. At the start of the qualifying session, Bezzecchi maintained his good performance from Friday, quickly breaking the 1:29 barrier on his first lap.
His teammate, Jorge Martín, confirmed Aprilia’s strength with a time also below 1:29, positioning himself in second place with 1:28.918. Raúl Fernández, who made it to Q2 after standing out in Q1, achieved the third-best time, leaving his Trackhouse Racing team in a good position with two bikes on the front row.
Ducati, hoping to be one of the main rivals, was not the primary threat to Aprilia in qualifying. KTM’s Pedro Acosta placed fourth, surpassing the Márquez brothers. However, reigning world champion Marc Márquez demonstrated his class with a series of fast sectors during his second lap but was unable to take the lead.
One of the highlights was the disappointment of Francesco Bagnaia, who was considered one of the favorites before qualifying but was eliminated in Q1, finishing in 13th place. Fabio Quartararo, representing Yamaha, ended in 16th place, far from the expected competitiveness.
The Thailand Grand Prix promises to be exciting, with Bezzecchi and teammates ready to fight for victory, while many other riders look to recover from challenging qualifying sessions.
