Marco Bezzecchi, Aprilia Racing rider, has recently revealed the challenges he has faced during his physical recovery after achieving an impressive time at Silverstone, where he set a new track record in the practice for the British Grand Prix.
After an accident during practice at Sachsenring last month, Bezzecchi suffered injuries to his collarbone and knee, which made him lose hope for a good result at Silverstone. However, in his first MotoGP appearance in nearly a month, he surprised everyone with a time of 1m56.280s, which put him at the top of the table.
Despite his standout performance, Bezzecchi admitted that his physical condition was not ideal. ‘The day was fantastic, but the reality is that endurance was very difficult for me,’ he commented. ‘My physical condition is not perfect,’ he noted, referring to the ongoing pain in both his collarbone and knee.
The 27-year-old rider described his recovery as a true calvary, noting that the days at home were ‘a disaster.’ Bezzecchi revealed that, despite having the necessary surgery, his rehabilitation has continued, and he could not ride a motorcycle until the week before the grand prix.
Injured but determined
After withdrawing from the German GP, Bezzecchi returned home to undergo knee surgery and a collarbone operation. He explained the details of his injuries and the complications he faced during the recovery process.
‘The fracture was serious. The surgery was complicated and the wound on the knee was very deep. I did everything possible to return as soon as possible, despite the difficulties,’ he added.
With the spirit of competing in races, Bezzecchi acknowledged that despite his remarkable performances, there is uncertainty about his capabilities for the upcoming races. ‘I hope to finish both races,’ he said, referring to the intensity and challenges posed by his current physical conditions.
