Marco Bezzecchi, rider of the Aprilia Racing team, has revealed conflicting feelings following his victory at the Indonesian Grand Prix. Despite dominating the race on Sunday, Bezzecchi admitted that his weekend experience felt ‘more like a loss than a victory’.
After a disastrous outing on Saturday, where he crashed on the first lap of the sprint, the Italian rider managed to resume competition to clinch first place. This victory marks a return to triumph since the Italian Grand Prix in May and gave Aprilia a surprising 1-2-3-4 in Mandalika.
However, the race was marred by an incident between Bezzecchi and his teammate Raul Fernandez, who ended up with a broken finger and publicly criticized Bezzecchi. This led the team to gather both riders before the Sunday race to resolve internal tensions.
Reflecting on his performance, Bezzecchi commented that his determination to continue was essential after Saturday’s disaster, despite being 59 points away in the title fight. “I had the confidence that if I worked well, I could recover points, and that’s what I did on Sunday,” he said.
With this victory, Bezzecchi has slightly closed the gap in the standings, but he is still 46 points behind the leader Jorge Martin, with only five races left in the season. The rider feels he will not give up until he has mathematical chances to fight for the title.
“I don’t want to give up until there’s a chance to fight,” Bezzecchi added, acknowledging that he needed to take more risks to reduce the gap to the leaders. Despite the pain of the situation, the rider remains focused on his ultimate goal.
