Bernd Maylander highlights Max Verstappen’s rise in GT3 racing

The Formula 1 safety car driver, Bernd Maylander, has recently praised Max Verstappen‘s rise in GT3 racing, highlighting his trajectory at the iconic Nordschleife circuit. In an interview on the podcast F1 Beyond The Grid, Maylander expresses his admiration for the Formula 1 champion’s performance.

Maylander, who is a former winner of the 24 Hours of Nürburgring, commented that the fundamental aspects of the vehicles they drove are similar. “The fundamentals are in some way similar,” he remarked regarding the relationship between the safety car he uses and Verstappen’s Mercedes AMG GT3. Moreover, he pointed out that while his safety car has more power, it is considerably heavier and must adhere to road vehicle regulations.

Maylander also acknowledged that the GT racing world is attentive to Verstappen’s actions. “He is a great spectacle on the track,” he said. “The Nordschleife is where I started learning to drive fast. Verstappen is doing fantastically well, and everyone appreciates it,” he added.

According to him, GT3 racing at this circuit poses a significant challenge, especially when it comes to overtaking. “It takes a lot of passion to find the right moment to move forward,” he concluded.
