Max Verstappen headed a wet and cut short FP3 session in F1 Belgian GP from Oscar Piastri and Pierre Gasly.
The weather eventually played a spoilsport in FP3 of F1 Belgian GP where much of the session was red-flagged due to heavy rain. It started wet where majority went on the intermediate tyres apart from two Stake drivers for the first run.
The two did switch to the intermediate for some running until it was red-flagged due to Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll crashing out on top of the Eau Rouge. It was not a heavy hit per se but the red flag brought a standstill to the session.
Nobody ventured out post the red flag until a second red flag was shown for the weather conditions. It remained like that until the last few minutes of the session where the red flag was withdrawn to allow the F1 drivers to undertake a practice start.
At the end of it, Red Bull’s Max Verstappen set the pace with a 2m01.565s lap despite his little moment on his out lap, as did second-placed McLaren’s Oscar Piastri. The Top 3 was rounded out by Alpine’s Pierre Gasly, with McLaren’s Lando Norris in fourth.
The Brit was forced to a floor change after damage on the underside, as the other Alpine of Esteban Ocon was fifth from Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc, Stroll, Stake’s Valtteri Bottas, Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton and Red Bull’s Sergio Perez in the Top 10.
Williams’ Alexander Albon slotted in 11th from Haas’ Nico Hulkenberg, Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso, Visa Cash App RB pair of Daniel Ricciardo & Yuki Tsunoda, Stake’s Zhou Guanyu and Williams’ Logan Sargeant to round the 17 timed runners.
The likes of Mercedes’ George Russell, Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz and Haas’ Kevin Magnussen didn’t set a lap time, where the latter two didn’t venture out early in the session. The Spaniard had a gravel moment when he ventured for the first time towards the end.
