Lando Norris led a McLaren 1-2 in FP2 of F1 Belgian GP with Oscar Paistri edging out Max Verstappen, who dropped to P3
The weather remained dry in FP2 of F1 Belgian GP at Spa-Francorchamps, as McLaren bounced back to claw into the time of Red Bull’s Max Verstappen to end up 1-2, with Lando Norris (1m42.260s) in lead from teammate Oscar Piastri.
Verstappen dropped to third but was only 0.002s behind the Australian, with Ferrari pair of Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz doing well to be fourth and fifth. Both Norris and Leclerc ran an extra set of soft tyre in the session with rain prediction for Saturday.
Mercedes’ George Russell was sixth as his teammate Lewis Hamilton found himself a bit down in 10th allowing Alpine’s Esteban Ocon to be seventh and Haas’ Kevin Magnussen in eighth, with Red Bull’s Sergio Perez in ninth ahead of the Brit.
The Mexican was spotted checking the downforce levels of the McLaren into Eau Rouge, as Ocon managed to run well after no running in FP1. Him and Magnussen’s progress meant the Aston Martin pair dropped out in 11th and 12th respectively.
It was Lance Stroll ahead of Fernando Alonso, with Stake F1 Team’s Valtteri Bottas in 13th from Visa Cash App RB’s Daniel Ricciardo. The Australian pitted with a suspected problem, with five minutes remaining, but he managed to return the track.
Alpine’s Pierre Gasly was 15th from Haas’ Nico Hulkenberg, with Williams’ Alexander Albon only 17th after a better FP1 run. His teammate Logan Sargeant was 18th from Stake F1 Team’s Zhou Guanyu and Visa Cash App RB’s Yuki Tsunoda to round the 20 runners.
