Oliver Bearman doesn’t wish to start thinking the worst case scenario of being teammate to Esteban Ocon, as he sees positives so far in the brief amount of togetherness.
With an all-new line-up, Haas will have to learn to deal with the new dynamics, where the drivers too will have to understand how they can work together. So far, Bearman has only had one TPC together with Ocon on track. Off it, the two have visited America together and held photoshoots to start the new F1 2025 journey.
It is all good from Bearman’s side. In fact, the Brit doesn’t wish to dwell on Ocon’s past relationship with his teammates and start on the worst case scenario mindset. He is looking forward to work together and push the team forward, while also learning himself from the Frenchman’s experience.
“With Esteban, we have had a good week,” said Bearman to media. “I worked with him few weeks ago for our first TPC test, and we discussed few ideas about how he felt the car in Abu Dhabi and how I felt the car in testing and my work done last year. And we have a busy week ahead taking all the pictures.
“We went to the Empire State Building as well, which is quite cool. It’s been nice to get to know him. He’s of course got a lot of experience in F1 that I can take and learn from. So, I am excited for our season together. Regarding his past, nothing yet, I don’t think it is good to start off thinking the worse and thinking the worst case scenario.
“I am quite positive about our relationship so far, I have had a good start. Of course, we have raced each other yet. But I have watched Esteban work really well, he’s smart and he gives good feedback. So far looking at the positives, I think it is going to be a great teammate to learn from, has a lot of experience in F1 and he’s very fast.
“I think we are going to push the team forward and work together well for the whole year, have a great relationship. I don’t see why that wouldn’t be the case,” summed up Bearman, who also shared about passing his driving test the second time when asked about it, referring to recent drivers’ test passing of Andrea Kimi Antonelli.
“Luckily, I passed it a few years ago! You can pass at 17, not 18, like in Italy,” Bearman said. “I passed on my second time! I didn’t stop at a ‘stop’ sign. I didn’t burn it, I did slow down, I was crawling but you’re meant to stop. We don’t have those on race tracks!
“I was being typical racing driver, I thought I could pass my test without any lessons. That’s where I went wrong. I took a few lessons for the second one. I’ve been driving since 2022 now, so I am a very experienced driver now! My first car was a BMW 1 series, now I have an Alfa Romeo company car.”
