This weekend, the battle for the FIA Formula 3 European Championship title will be continued with the race meeting at the Nürburgring. At the 3.629 kilometre version of the tradition-rich Eifel circuit, Felix Rosenqvist (kfzteile24 Mücke Motorsport) wants to keep on closing the gap to championship leader Raffaele Marciello (Prema Powerteam). With 18 of the season’s 30 races contested, the Italian who is supported by the Ferrari Driver Academy holds a 24.5-point lead over the Swede. But don’t forget the other drivers who also have got what it takes to become a significant factor in the battle for points, podiums and race wins.
Marciello and Rosenqvist were successful in last year’s Nürburgring weekend and secured a podium each. Marciello finished runner-up, with Rosenqvist coming third. Alexander Sims (ThreeBond with T-Sport) also has fond memories of the Eifel circuit. Last year, he contested the races at the Nürburgring as guest driver and made for the only win of a ThreeBond-Nissan engine in the Formula 3 Euro Series. The 25-year-old Briton is going to contest his second FIA Formula 3 European Championship weekend, in the Eifel.
Sven Müller (ma-con) also is confident for the three races at the Nürburgring. In 2012, the German young-gun secured a second place behind this year’s DTM driver Daniel Juncadella. This year, however, the 21-year-old still is waiting for his first podium. On the other hand, he finished fourth three times, thus coming close to making it. Together with his team-mate André Rudersdorf (ma-con) and Lucas Wolf (URD Rennsport), he will represent the German colours, in the 19th, 20th and 21st rounds of the 2013 season. Rudersdorf, the youngest of the three Germans, secured his best FIA Formula 3 European Championship result to date at the Norisring by finishing ninth. While Lucas Wolf made for the only podium of a German driver by taking the chequered flag at the Red Bull Ring in third position.
André Rudersdorf (ma-con): “I’m looking forward to the races at the Nürburgring as this circuit has got a lot of tradition and as it is my home circuit. I’m living just an hour from the Nürburgring and so, a lot of friends and acquaintances will attend the event to support me. It goes without saying that this support represents an extra dose of motivation. When it comes to the racing, I’ve set myself the goal to improve consistently and make the best possible use of what I’ve learned. If this would be enough for securing top-10 results and adding more points to my tally, in this extremely competitive field, I would be rather happy with my first season on this high level.”
