Former F1 racer Rubens Barrichello has signed up with Toyota for a dual programme in 2020 to compete in Argentina and Brazil.
Following his F1 career, Barrichello signed up to compete in Brazil Stock Car, where he took the championship in 2014 with Full Time Sports in a Chevrolet Sonic. He has been with the team since 2013 and will stay on with them in 2020 but with a new car.
He has been driving the Chevrolet Cruze for last few seasons but will switch to Toyota Corolla, which he will be driving in the Argentina Super TC2000 championship. Brazilian Barrichello will have Matias Rossi at his side in both the series.
In Argentina, though, the team will also have Julian Santero and Mariano Altuna alongside Barrichello and Rossi. The 2020 calendar for both hasn’t been released but it is expected the clashes will be resolved.
“I am very happy with this possibility of expanding my participation with Toyota and joining TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Argentina to participate in the Super TC2000,” said Barrichello. “It is a category of which I was always attentive and has many good pilots, so I have no doubt that it will be an important challenge for me.
“In my case, despite all the experience I have in F1, in Stock Car and in many categories of motor racing in the world, I think there will be much to learn from here, from the technical staff and from my new teammates.
“I trust that this stage that started aboard the Corolla in the Super TC2000, such a prestigious tournament in the world, will be very good for me. I feel young and with great enthusiasm, all this has renewed my energies, and I count the days left for the first race.”
