Barcelona F2 2019 Test: De Vries continues on top one week later

ART Grand Prix’s Nyck de Vries was quickest on Day 1 of second FIA Formula 2 (F2) Championship pre-season test in Barcelona.

Dutch driver Nyck de Vries continues his dominance in the F2 pre-season test with the ART GP driver quickest all day at Barcelona-Catalunya track, following on from Jerez where he was the fastest in two of the three days of testing last week.

He set a lap-time of 1m28.821s which was the quickest during the morning session. He was also the quickest in the afternoon setting the day’s best lap time of 1m28.655s during the latest minutes of the session.

DAMS’ Sergio Sette Camara was one tenth slower than de Vries, setting a lap time of 1m28.772s to finish in between the two ART GP drivers, with Russian Nikita Mazepin finishing in third after his best lap of 1m28.829s.

Campos Racing’s Luca Ghiotto set a 1m28.869s to be the fourth fastest of the day ahead of Carlin’s Louis Deletraz from, who set a lap of 1m28.875s. The Prema drivers who did not set any fastest lap during the morning, led the way in the afternoon with Mick Schumacher.

The Ferrari junior driver (1m28.886s) ended up sixth still with teammate Sean Gelael (1m29.180s) ninth while Campos Racing’s Jack Aitken (1m28.928s) and UNI-Virtuosi Racing’s Guanyu Zhou (1m29.070s) were seventh and eighth respectively.

Trident’s Ralph Boschung (1m29.249s) completed the Top 10 with the Swiss once again driving to attain a seat for the 2019 F2 season. DAMS’ Nicholas Latifi (1m29.343s) slotted in 11th from Sauber Junior Team by Charouz’s Juan Manuel Correa (1m29.391s).

Carlin’s Nobuharu Matsushita (1m29.413s) was 13th with Trident’s Giuliano Alesi (1m29.492s) in 14th from BWT Arden’s Anthoine Hubert (1m29.709s) ahead of two makeshift drivers MP Motorsport’s Jordan King (1m29.743s) and Campos’ Roberto Merhi (1m29.752s).

Sauber Junior Team by Charouz’s Callum Ilott (1m29.776s) was 18th with BWT Arden’s Tatiana Calderon (1m30.185s) in 19th ahead of newcomer MP Motorsport’s Mahaveer Raghunathan (1m31.639s).
