Francesco Bagnaia links the lack of safety changes at Balaton Park to the uncertain future of the circuit

Francesco Bagnaia has expressed that the lack of significant changes to the Balaton Park circuit could lead to its loss from the MotoGP calendar next year. The Italian rider hinted that MotoGP could move to a new venue in Hungary in 2027.

The 4.115 km circuit, which was added to the calendar last August, has received criticism for its difficulty in achieving overtaking and safety concerns. Despite its presence this year, it has been rescheduled for June, making it the first event of a double weekend alongside the Italian Grand Prix at Mugello.

It seems that MotoGP intends to leave Balaton Park after 2026 and a return to the Hungaroring is anticipated, a circuit that has not been seen on much of the calendar since 1992. When asked about improvements to the circuit before its second race, Bagnaia stated that modifications were complicated due to its provisional status.

“They haven’t changed anything because it’s a provisional circuit. Next year we will move to another track,” declared the Ducati rider. “It’s curious since the available space is considerable, but they have designed a very peculiar layout. We will survive another season and maybe next year will be better.”

Additionally, Tech3 rider Enea Bastianini has called for changes following a worrying accident at the first chicane during the 2025 race. Bastianini noted that the run-off areas at the site of his fall have been expanded, reflecting growing concerns for rider safety.

“I know the chicane can be problematic, but in any case, we are discussing rider safety,” he commented. “I hope to see changes from now on because I have been told that there is more gravel on the track, which has also been done for the Superbike Championship.”
