Bahrain GP: Hamilton leads Mercedes 1-2 in FP2, Verstappen P6

Lewis Hamilton led a Mercedes 1-2 in FP2 of F1 Bahrain GP, with George Russell in second ahead of Fernando Alonso in the Top 3.

The somewhat representative session under the floodlight saw Mercedes end up 1-2 in FP2 of F1 Bahrain GP, where Lewis Hamilton (1m30.374s) led teammate George Russell (1m30.580s) despite the latter struggling a bit in the session.

His floor also caught minor fire which didn’t bother Mercedes, as Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso (1m30.660s) was third from Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz, McLaren’s Oscar Piastri and Red Bull’s Max Verstappen to make it five different cars in the Top 6.

Haas’ Nico Hulkenberg was surprise seventh from Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll, who led Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc and Red Bull’s Sergio Perez in the Top 10. The Monegasque did not have a clean session as he had multiple kerb moments on multiple laps.

Williams’ Alexander Albon missed out on the Top 10 to be 11th ahead of FP1 pace-setter Visa Cash App RB’s Daniel Ricciardo, with their teammates Logan Sargeant and Yuki Tsunoda in 13th and 15th respectively – not far off from each other.

The other Haas of Kevin Magnussen slotted in 14th between Sargeant and Tsunoda. Alpine’s Pierre Gasly was 16th from Stake F1 Team’s Valtteri Bottas, who was pulled up for pitlane infringement where he did not put his car on the fastlane.

The other Alpine of Esteban Ocon was 18th from Stake F1 Team’s Zhou Guanyu and McLaren’s Lando Norris, who did not get a clean lap to set a better time. He also had to change his steering wheel in the middle of the session.
