Red Bull’as Max Verstappen was fastest in F1 Austrian GP FP1 from Ferrari duo of Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz amid tyre testing.

It was a bit cloudy in F1 Austrian GP FP1 session as Red Bull’s Verstappen ended up fastest with a 1m05.143s lap, from the Ferrari duo of Leclerc (1m05.409s) and Sainz (1m05.431s), where the Monegasque put in an improved lap late in the session.

It was not a clean run from Leclerc, though, as he kept locking up at Turn 1, especially with his front-right tyre. Teammate Sainz had a similar moment, but just once. They were not the only ones to have an off at Turn 1, as the list included 5-6 drivers.

A late lap from Mercedes’ Valtteri Bottas put him in fourth with a 1m05.445s lap after he had a moment in Sector 2, as well. The improved run from the Finn and Leclerc pushed AlphaTauri’s Yuki Tsunoda (1m05.474s) to fifth – with the Japanese having an off too.

Alfa Romeo’s Kimi Raikkonen (1m05. 586s) did well in sixth as he led Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton (1m05.709s), who did not go for an extreme push lap, while the team tested some aero parts on both cars. Red Bull’s Sergio Perez (1m05.726s) was eighth with AlphaTauri’s Pierre Gasly (1m05.726s) ninth.

As seen, both Perez and Gasly had the same time, as McLaren’s Lando Norris (1m05.880s) rounded out the Top 10 from Alpine’s Esteban Ocon. McLaren’s Daniel Ricciardo was 12th ahead of Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll, who spun twice in the session.

F2 racer Guanyu Zhou did well to be 14th in the Alpine, in place of Fernando Alonso in his first-ever FP1 run in F1 Austrian GP, as Aston Martin’s Sebastian Vettel was 15th the other FP1 runner Callum Ilott in the Alfa Romeo car, in place of Antonio Giovinazzi.

Haas’ Mick Schumacher did well in 17th ahead of Williams’ Roy Nissany, who ended up ahead of Nicholas Latifi, in George Russell’s car. The Top 20 in F1 Austrian GP was rounded out by Haas’ Nikita Mazepin, who had few off moments in the session.

The fastest times from Stroll and Zhou was set on the medium compound, while everyone bar Ricciardo and Nissany, ran the new and more robust tyres – a predominant change on the rear pair than the front – from Pirelli. The session was also marred by host of track limits lap deletions, which saw almost everyone had at least one deletion.
